2018 is creeping up on us. Where does the time go?! Hopefully you’ve had major success with those goals you wrote down at the start of 2017. If not, don’t beat yourself up. You can still get back on track. Did you make some progress, at least? If so, awesome! Hope you celebrated your successes along the way. It’s important to acknowledge all your accomplishments no matter how small. If you slacked off and aren’t happy with how 2017 turned out, I’m here to give you some tips so you can hit the ground running for an even better and successful new year!

goals write

1. Write down your goals.

Think. Get crystal clear on what your goals are and why you want to achieve them. Envision yourself achieving each goal and feel those positive emotions as if you already achieved them. Keep  them visible and read it daily.

goal action plan

2. Include your action plan and deadline for each goal.

Take massive action. What are the steps you have to take to reach your goals? When do you want to accomplish it by? Be careful not to get stuck and stay in the planning & prepping process that you don’t actually take action towards reaching your goal. You’re going to have to get uncomfortable at some point. Remember you don’t have to learn or know everything ahead of time. If you’re waiting for the perfect time, it’s now. Just get started!

3. Focus.

Focus on the correct activities and commit to doing them daily in order to reach your goal. Don’t get distracted. It’s OK to say no to people and things that don’t help you grow or progress towards your goal. Know your priorities and non-negotiables. People make to-do lists, why not make a NOT-TO-DO list and stick to it?

4. Believe in yourself.

C’mon have some faith in YOU! Like the Maju Mindset book says, “Your mindset is the doorway to your greatness”. Know that you are worthy of success and achieving your goals. Watch how you talk to yourself. Avoid words like “I can’t”, “I don’t have”, I will never”, etc. Plugging in to some positive & motivational audios or videos can do wonders for your personal development and growth. Try it out! I strongly believe that once you realize you are worthy and deserving of success and happiness, that’s when you’ll see a shift in your energy and demand more of yourself.

5. Find an accountability partner.

Grab a friend or coach. Share your goals with them to keep yourself accountable. Check in frequently to ensure you’re staying on top of the actions necessary to obtain your goals. Once you publicly put it out there, how can you not follow through? Surround yourself with people that will inspire you and challenge you to be better, people that you can learn from, people that believe in you, your dreams and vision.

In case you were wondering how I did with my 2017 goals, I’m an amazing starter and a less than amazing finisher. Raise your hand if you know what I’m talking about! To be honest, I did OK in the beginning of the year but quickly faded and had to re-evaluate my goals in May. Because of, let’s say personal life happenings, I allowed myself to get distracted and I lost focus. When I rewrote my goals, they all focused on rebuilding ME – my health, fitness, happiness, self-esteem, confidence, mental wellbeing, and my spiritual and personal relationships. Once I realized that I needed to take care of myself first, I went to work and let me tell you, I feel great! I am a work in progress but not only do I feel a difference, I have had friends and family tell me they see a positive change in me, too. How awesome is that?! Since then, I have given myself more goals to work towards before the end of this year. I share this with you because it is the reason one of the tips above is mindset and believing in yourself. We all get thrown curve balls from time to time but if we are equipping our mind with positivity, motivation and encouragement, it may give us the mental strength we need to handle it better and continue to stay focused on our path to crushing goals.

goal crush

Now that I’ve shared these 5 tips to crush your goals that I’ve learned from my own personal experience……WHAT ARE YOU WAITING FOR?! Get started! Yes! NOW! Who says you have to wait until Jan 1st? You still have time to finish 2017 strong!

Maybe this blog post is against some of the mainstream content out there giving you advice on how your LinkedIn profile should look like.

And I'm fine with that, are you?

But for now, let's color in between the lines, shall we?

Your personal brand is everything about you, your professional reputation, online image, offline image, your work style, and how you engage with everyone.

To develop a personal brand, consider what you want people to think of when they hear your name. What particular skills and talents do you want people to think about?

Brand Yourself

Right now, how do you think people would describe you? Does it align with what you want people to see you as?

LinkedIn can help develop your personal brand increasing the chances that others notice you and potentially do business with you.

Here's a sacred cow I am about to sacrifice:

You don't have to have an impressive resume to get people's attention.

Here's why:

Within your LinkedIn profile you can add several other fields of information which you can use to showcase your core values.

Things like Animal Welfare if you have volunteered at a shelter, or adding the community groups and events where you have been involved has a lot to say about you.

Even if you don't have a solid work history, showing consistency in your service and activism in your community will help you stand out.

Besides, you can also include new skills you have been developing, projects you are currently involved with, and you can even showcase your innovation and expertise by listing things like patents you have filed or other languages you speak.

penguins at work

How will you stand out among a flock of people wearing penguin suits if you're also wearing a suit.

Branding, REMEMBER?  Stand out!

Don't get me wrong, I'm all for business suits and skinny ties, (plus I love penguins), however that's not what you will find on my LinkedIn profile. You have to know the audience that you want to attract in order to pull this off however. You can't come “as you are” either.

On LinkedIn the headline is a very important focal point for how you want to be seen. Use it well because some people may never go past the headline when conducting a search for people with your expertise.

If you can, please get creative with your headline. CEO & Founder is just boring!

Steer away from self-centered, over the top titles like “Self-Made, or 7-Figure Earner”.

personal branding

On LinkedIn you get to choose a unique URL to point to your profile. Most people use their name, which is a great way for people to find you if they are searching for your name.

But, if someone is searching for a Paleo Nutrition Expert, will they find you? Consider using a keyword in the URL, but only if you are sure that you're always going to be doing this. Otherwise, choose your name if available.

Contribute Your Knowledge Regularly

Participate in groups, like, share and comment on things that your connections have shared on their status updates. If you have created a white paper, eBook, or blog post about your niche, share it on LinkedIn Pulse, LinkedIn's publishing platform.

Share other people's work (with your added commentary) within your niche as well. By curating other people's work, if up to your standards, you will get a reputation as the go-to person who can find the information people want about that topic.

Social Media Manager

A personal brand takes time, consistency, and true knowledge of your niche. LinkedIn is a piece of the digital marketing puzzle that can help you get noticed if you use it properly. And when in doubt, hire a pro!

Branding yourself is much more than having a cool logo and a catchy tagline. In today's noisy digital world you are competing for attention.

But just like in the real world, you're not just looking for the next pick-up line. You need to be attentive of the signals that the marketplace is throwing at you.

Here are 3 skills that will put your digital marketing into another orbit so that you can actually identify with your audience and build long-term relationships.

While there are many seasoned copywriters in our space right now, for 4 years I was exposed to some of the most talented creative copy at the time by working at a marketing agency in Manhattan.

Master your copywriting. Seduce your customers to buy with persuasive words that speak into their most innate need to avoid pain. Speaking to your audience through headlines, tweets, content marketing strategy, calls to action, email subjects lines with the language that matters to them will give you an edge.

Your offers will be better received when you lead with value-rich content that addresses the specific challenges of your audience.

People are cautious about who they follow because of all the fluff and hype in our space so don't be afraid of showing emotion or being vulnerable and asking for advice.

Think of a farmer mentality, instead a hunter mentality

This is my friend Bert Bledsoe, He is a farmer in real life. Online and offline!

Nurture and cultivate your audience, your job is NOT to “search and destroy” your “leads”.

You wouldn't tell a girl you love her on the first date.

Don't be that guy..

Understand the psychology of human behavior and stimulate what triggers people to make a purchase decision. People, you and I make decisions based on emotions, not logic.

Think about that for a second..

Basically every type of interaction you have with your audience you better be gathering feedback and data. It's social listening, you have to be keen to your audience ever-changing needs and pivot accordingly,

If you don't someone else will. That simple.

Anticipate your audience's main concerns, destroy their limitations and paint the bigger picture. Understand their hurdles and show them how to overcome them.

Hijack your prospect's mind by addressing their questions and objections before they even formulate and believe their own excuses.

Redirect their thought patterns in a positive manner by painting them the bigger picture of what THEY want and what can be made possible with your product or offer.

The cost objection is always in your prospect's mind. Whether you are using video or a written sales letter, or if you're doing a presentation it's your job to be adding value during the proposition of your product or service.

Stack it up so high that in the mind of the prospect they'll see the price so low compared to all the value and bonuses that you are offering if they take action right now.

Know who you are talking to. I like to get on LinkedIn to see if I can find my prospect and his/her profile. Know your prospect better than your product.

What similarities do I have with this individual aside from the fact that we agreed to meet upon a certain common outcome?

What dissimilarities do I bring to the table that can be of added value to this team? What's the angle?

One of the best ways to tap into the subconscious mind of people is by telling stories. Whether it's your own story or borrowing someone else's story but make sure it's genuine.

Speak in metaphors.

Know who your target audience is. Who is in front of you? What type of language is appropriate. Storytelling is key.

Know what your audience is searching for. Enter the conversation that is already happening in their mind.

Are you still with me?

Know what you are offering in order to solve their needs. Find their pain, twist the knife and offer the cure (benefit), not the drug (product).

That was a metaphor, did you catch that?

Know who your competitors are and how you stand out from the rest. What's your story?

As you, my intuitive reader might already have figured out, these 3 skills are 3 circles that overlap each other, have their own uniqueness, but are inseparable.

When Facebook Messenger was first released we thought about it as an unnecessary, pesky little app that invaded our privacy and many people didn't even bother downloading it.

Today, with over 1.2 billion monthly active users worldwide, that number is going to nearly double by 2019, according to Statista.

Now, this isn't the latest marketing gimmick of the month. Facebook's newest functionality is changing the way you can market your business.

Imagine being able to automatically subscribe your Facebook contacts on Messenger without having them fill out a form.

To really understand what Facebook Messenger Marketing truly is, think about as three components which you are likely to be already implementing on different platforms.

Let me explain.

MARKETING – Educate, Inform, Entertain, Build Value.

You're already doing this on Facebook. With Messenger, you can do all of this within the Messenger app environment.

SALES – Engage. Qualify. Close. Up-sell.

If you are an internet marketer, you are likely to be using opt-in forms, landing pages and VSL's.

CUSTOMER SERVICE – Post sale. Reputation Management.

Currently, you are probably using autoresponders and email sequences to continue to engage with your audience. Most of the functions of an autoresponder are now being automated with Messenger chat bots but you gotta set it up the right way.

Video tutorials and chat-bot demo included as you scroll down.

So, in recap: Messenger Marketing can shorten the lead to sale process, and I think this is genius!

Messenger is an amazing tool for brands to communicate with their customers. Here's why:

Email open rate has been on a steady decline. Even spammers are not getting the return they're used to. All while FB Messenger users are on the rise.

Statistic: Marketing e-mail open and click rates in the United States in 2016, by degree of personalization | Statista

I don't mean to bore you with graphs but numbers tell a story.

Emails aren't being opened!

Statistic: E-mail usage growth in the United States from 2013 to 2019 (in millions) | Statista

According to Sensor Tower, worldwide iOS and Android downloads of Facebook Messenger grew 5.66% from 145.3 million in Q1 2016 to 153.5M in Q1 2017.

This is current, fresh out of the oven data right here!

OK, last graph, I promise..

Statistic: Share of global Facebook Messenger users who purchased a product via mobile last month as of 3rd quarter 2016, by age group | Statista

If you're still reading this, you're a data driven marketer. Way to go!

In essence, your messages are being delivered within the Messenger environment where friends and family conversations take place, giving the end user a more intimate, cozy feel between them and your brand.

Arguably, the best form of communication is (was) face to face.

Think again..

Looks familiar? Yeah..

Similar to growing an email list, now you can grow a list of Messenger subscribers. With a single click and without filling out any forms people can now be subscribed to your messaging sequence.

FACEBOOK ADS INTEGRATION – Facebook has added Messenger as a traffic destination within your ads in the form of a call to action button that leads traffic right into Messenger. Pretty neat!

AUTOMATION – Automate some of your communications with bots in a way that enhances the user experience. You can have bots set up to ask a question, send a file, tag a contact, subscribe them to a messaging sequence and more!

WEBSITE OVERLAYS – Widgets that you can embed on your website or blog. I really dig this feature! You can use a simple headline or a fully customized opt-in form and landing pages with images, call to action buttons, etc.

SEGMENTATION – Need I say more? You can also broadcast specific messages to a specific segment within your Messenger audience by using tags, gender, location and other custom fields.

You can have a pre-sale conversation with your leads and take that conversation even further with existing customers after the purchase decision.

Furthermore, if you're a social media marketing manager and you help brands grow and engage their audience online, now you have another weapon on your arsenal. If you have an agency handling multiple accounts, you can designate people in your team to handle communications between the brand and its followers.

CHAT BOTS – ManyChat

The formula seems fairly simple to follow: More customers, more sales, more profits.

But what if I told you that you can actually increase your bottom line with fewer customers?

Let me explain.

The potential for a customer isn’t just that one time purchase. What I see is unlimited earning potential by strategically developing and up-serving my existing customer so that he or she gladly is willing to spend more money with me and is more likely to continue reordering my products.

It's called Wallet Share.

The marketing term referring to the amount of the customers’ total spending that a business captures by selling its products and services. Make them so happy that they wanna buy more!

You've heard of marketshare, mindshare, now get real familiar with wallet share.

Here's the process:

  1. EXPOSE – Sell them something of value at a small cost. Get them in the door.
  2. INVOLVE – Invite them to be part of a community.
  3. UPGRADE – Additional products and services that could be of value to your customer.

Let's dive into each of these three steps a little further.

grow your audience

It's your opportunity to make a great first impression and show off your stuff. It's your time to shine baby!

You now have a prospect who has raised his hand interested in what you have to offer and now you must deliver. This should be in the form of a very good quality product at a no-brainer price. Maybe even a free offering or a sample, but it has to be top-notch.

Add value to your new customer's experience by inviting them to join a community. It is a primal instinct that people long to be part of something bigger than themselves. Invite them to watch testimonials, to join a Facebook group or subscribe to your YouTube channel or your newsletter.

Keep dripping new content in front of this new member of your tribe. Stay in touch with them, run contests, take polls, engage with your audience on multiple platforms without always trying to “sell them”.

UPGRADEupserve your audience

But wait, there's more..

Ever heard of the “up-sell”?

I like better to up-serve. Nobody likes to be sold.  So this one requires tact. It requires knowing your audience so well that you absolutely understand their needs even before they do and they see your products as must-haves.

This is where your customer is debating whether he or she would make a more significant transaction with you based on their previous sets of experiences in the first two steps.

The value provided by your offers NEEDS to exceed the price tag attached to it. Once you effectively illustrate the value vs. price ratio and your offers solves your customer's needs, the up-sell is imminent.

If you want more profits in less time with less people you have to always be developing that customer. It's the science of making your customer feel happy by spending more.

It costs way more money, more effort and more energy to acquire a new customer than it takes for an existing customer to spend more money with you if you get this right.

How can I better serve people?
