BEST PRACTICES FOR INSTAGRAM STORIES

While the social media landscape is ever changing, what’s hot now is Stories whether it be on Instagram, Facebook, SnapChat or YouTube Reels. There’s even Stories on Match.com! Not that I would know personally since I’m married but that’s what I heard.

Did you know that 200 million people use Explore on Instagram every day? Or that there’s more than 100 million people that follow #hashtags? And that there’s 100 million Instagram users that do live streams every day? 

Let’s talk about Instagram Stories. It allows you to connect with your audience and build trust by story telling using 15-second behind the scene clips showing moments of your daily life. 

Since they’re only available for 24 hours after posting, there’s more urgency to view it before it goes away and ya know, people have FOMO.

You can urge your viewers to make sure they stay up to date with your Stories so they don’t miss out on a promotion, discount code or announcement that they may want to take advantage of. 

It’s also great practice before doing Live videos since they’re shorter clips and you can record, delete and do it over as many times as you need to!

Ready to start sharing your story on Stories?! 

Here’s a few things to keep in mind. 

1. POST DAILY

5-15 stories throughout your day is a good amount. Be consistent and show up every single day.

2. BE YOURSELF

It doesn’t have to be perfect. People connect with authenticity, vulnerability and  real people who feel real emotions. 

3. MIX IT UP

It can get kinda boring seeing the same still shot photos every day. Change up the styles! You can post photos, videos, boomerangs, super zoom, etc. Play around and familiarize yourself with each one.

4. ENGAGE YOUR AUDIENCE

Ask for feedback, ask questions, how they feel about a certain topic. Ask them to DM you with their answers. There’s also a voting poll option you can use.

5. USE HASHTAGS & LOCATION

This increases your chances of more viewers discovering you. You can use up to 10 hashtags per story. Just drag it to the outer sides of the screen so you can’t see them anymore. The good news is they’ll all still apply and it won’t take over your whole  post! 

6. CALL-TO-ACTION

Don’t be afraid to promote on some of your Stories. Ex: Swipe up to comment or visit a link or click on link in bio. 

People follow people because they provide value to their life in some way, shape or form. Do that, as well as keep these best practices in mind and I’m confident you’ll see your numbers start to rise!

REPROGRAM YOUR MIND

New Year. New You. Blah blah blah. I’ve heard that before. I've even said that before. Well, guess what? It ain’t gonna work if you’re not building that mindset muscle! Trust me. I know.

The good news is you don’t have to live in the memories and failures of your past. Reprogram your mind and your brain can now be a map of your successful future.

Mindset is defined as a mental attitude or inclination; a fixed state of mind.

It’s easy to say you want change in your life, but what actions are you planning to take to make that happen? It’s time to dig deep, get rid of all those limiting beliefs and whatever is stopping you from experiencing your true potential and achieving success in your life.

It’s time to reprogram that mind of yours because growth inside will fuel growth outside, so let’s get to work!

PERSONAL RESPONSIBILITY

Want to change? Take ownership of your internal feelings & attitudes and what you project to the outside world. The good news is you’re in charge of your life. The bad news is you’re in charge of your life.

Why not choose happiness and positivity every time? Choose to commit to your personal growth. Choose to be the best version of yourself, for you and for those around you. Aren’t you worth it?

SELF-AWARENESS

Be aware of negative thinking, self-talk, energy and emotions. Think positive! Be confident and believe in yourself.

If it wasn’t for this, my ass would still be on the couch for hours after work, wasting time and scrolling aimlessly through Facebook. I was lazy! I gained weight, started to feel bad about myself and didn't like what I saw in the mirror. 

Somewhere along the way, I lost my self confidence.

Once I became aware of my negative talk and emotions, I finally decided enough was enough and took action to ensure I wouldn't feel that way anymore. I am more active and committed to my fitness than ever before.

I’m a member at Orange Theory Fitness and loving it! And when I turned 35, I challenged myself to run 35 races by my next birthday. I am really enjoying my journey, getting stronger & faster and I’m happy with my progress!

Self-awareness is the first step towards change. And change is good.

BUILD THAT MUSCLE CONSISTENTLY

Develop habits that make your success inevitable. They say where your focus goes, your energy flows. Be clear on your vision.

Take action daily by writing, reading or reciting your vision, reading inspirational books, listening to motivational audios, watching videos, reciting positive affirmations, meditating, and attending empowering events.

Invest in your personal development. Apply and teach what you learn and you will soon go from thinking to doing to being.

I get it, you’re busy. But guess what?

There’s no reason you can’t dedicate a few minutes in a 24-hour day to plug into an inspirational call, or watch a kick ass FB video online, or listen to a CD on your drive to work.

Be honest with yourself the way I had to be. If you truly desire success in your life, you’ll find the time. Besides, what better way to jump start your day than by reading a good motivational quote?!

SURROUND YOURSELF WITH WINNERS

Get around positive people, successful leaders, innovators, thinkers, do-gooders, those that have already achieved what you want, and those that believe in your vision and dreams.

Since I recently started running, I joined several local online running groups. It feels good to be part of a community of active people that support, motivate and celebrate each other's success!

ATTITUDE OF GRATITUDE

Be grateful for the journey. Appreciate all that you have, all that you are, and all that you have accomplished thus far. 

Over the Thanksgiving holiday, I woke up early to run a 5K race in the cold, rainy weather. Instead of complaining, I filled my mind with thoughts of all I was grateful for in my life.

Am I at my goal weight? No. Have I achieved all my goals I hoped for this past year? Nah. Are my husband and I where we want to be financially? Nope.

But we still have so much to be thankful for and recognize all our blessings! Oh and that race turned out to be one of my best and most enjoyable races to date.

BE A SERVANT LEADER

Serve, help and build others up. Get involved in your community.

I have never left a volunteer opportunity feeling bad or like I have wasted my time.

I can't think of a better way to feel a sense of fulfillment in life than by giving back and helping others.

5 TIPS TO CRUSH YOUR GOALS

2018 is creeping up on us. Where does the time go?! Hopefully you’ve had major success with those goals you wrote down at the start of 2017. If not, don’t beat yourself up. You can still get back on track. Did you make some progress, at least? If so, awesome! Hope you celebrated your successes along the way. It’s important to acknowledge all your accomplishments no matter how small. If you slacked off and aren’t happy with how 2017 turned out, I’m here to give you some tips so you can hit the ground running for an even better and successful new year!

1. Write down your goals. 

Think. Get crystal clear on what your goals are and why you want to achieve them. Envision yourself achieving each goal and feel those positive emotions as if you already achieved them. Keep  them visible and read it daily.

2. Include your action plan and deadline for each goal.

Take massive action. What are the steps you have to take to reach your goals? When do you want to accomplish it by? Be careful not to get stuck and stay in the planning & prepping process that you don’t actually take action towards reaching your goal. You’re going to have to get uncomfortable at some point. Remember you don’t have to learn or know everything ahead of time. If you’re waiting for the perfect time, it’s now. Just get started!

3. Focus.

Focus on the correct activities and commit to doing them daily in order to reach your goal. Don’t get distracted. It’s OK to say no to people and things that don’t help you grow or progress towards your goal. Know your priorities and non-negotiables. People make to-do lists, why not make a NOT-TO-DO list and stick to it?

4. Believe in yourself.                

C’mon have some faith in YOU! Like the Maju Mindset book says, “Your mindset is the doorway to your greatness”. Know that you are worthy of success and achieving your goals. Watch how you talk to yourself. Avoid words like “I can’t”, “I don’t have”, I will never”, etc. Plugging in to some positive & motivational audios or videos can do wonders for your personal development and growth. Try it out! I strongly believe that once you realize you are worthy and deserving of success and happiness, that’s when you’ll see a shift in your energy and demand more of yourself.

5. Find an accountability partner.

Grab a friend or coach. Share your goals with them to keep yourself accountable. Check in frequently to ensure you’re staying on top of the actions necessary to obtain your goals. Once you publicly put it out there, how can you not follow through? Surround yourself with people that will inspire you and challenge you to be better, people that you can learn from, people that believe in you, your dreams and vision.

In case you were wondering how I did with my 2017 goals, I’m an amazing starter and a less than amazing finisher. Raise your hand if you know what I’m talking about! To be honest, I did OK in the beginning of the year but quickly faded and had to re-evaluate my goals in May. Because of, let’s say personal life happenings, I allowed myself to get distracted and I lost focus. When I rewrote my goals, they all focused on rebuilding ME – my health, fitness, happiness, self-esteem, confidence, mental wellbeing, and my spiritual and personal relationships. Once I realized that I needed to take care of myself first, I went to work and let me tell you, I feel great! I am a work in progress but not only do I feel a difference, I have had friends and family tell me they see a positive change in me, too. How awesome is that?! Since then, I have given myself more goals to work towards before the end of this year. I share this with you because it is the reason one of the tips above is mindset and believing in yourself. We all get thrown curve balls from time to time but if we are equipping our mind with positivity, motivation and encouragement, it may give us the mental strength we need to handle it better and continue to stay focused on our path to crushing goals.

TOP 5 TIPS TO STAY CONSISTENT

Do you finish what you start? Do you find it hard to stay motivated?Do you feel like you struggle with being consistent? You’re not alone. We’ve all been there at some point. As entrepreneurs with a long list of to-do’s, even we can have challenging moments with staying consistent. We also realize that if we expect to grow in our business and personal goals, being consistent and persistent is key. After speaking to my husband who is also my business partner, we came up with our top 5 tips to stay consistent. Hope it helps!

Know Your Why

Know your WHY. What’s your VISION?

You have to get clear, real clear on why you are doing what you are doing. What drives you? What makes you lose sleep at night and jump out of bed every morning? Be honest, be patient and be diligent. Unfortunately, there is no “easy” button. Be aware of the process that it will take to get there. If you are truly clear on your WHY, that should help push you to keep going no matter what.

Be aware of your distractions.No distractions

How easy is it to allow ourselves to get distracted by the daily hustle of life?! Maybe you have the good intention of looking something up online but then somehow find yourself scrolling through your Facebook newsfeed instead? Before you know it, 30 minutes or more has been wasted and you can’t remember why you even picked up your phone in the first place. Have some self awareness! They say it’s the first step towards change. Stay on track!

Ever heard the saying “If you fail to plan, then plan to fail”? Yeah. Me too. How about “Plan your work and work your plan”? Yup. If you’re clear on your goals and have a plan written down, you’re more likely to stick to it and take the action(s) necessary in order to progress and get stuff done. We are all creatures of habit which is a reflection of our beliefs. If we learn to recognize our limiting beliefs that prevent us from moving forward or being better, we can then shift our mindset, leading to a positive change in our habits. Studies show that it takes approximately 66 days to create a habit. Better get started! You have the power to create positive habits that will serve you and your success!

Grab a friend, mentor, or coach! Someone that will encourage you, motivate you and hold you accountable to your goals, dreams & aspirations. That way, you know that backing out or slacking isn’t an option because you have someone to answer to for it. Surround yourself amongst like-minded people that will support you and believe in the person you want to become.
